Description
These Burden Baskets which are 3″ in diameter were hand made by a member of the San Carlos Apache Tribe. The basket including the jingles, and not counting the strap, is approx. 10″ long and each one is unique.
Burden Baskets are used as reminders to visitors to put their personal problems in the burden basket next to the door at entering ones home. As guardians of the home they were a reminder to respect the happiness and privacy of the family’s sacred space. These baskets are still used today during the Apache Sunrise Ceremonies.
